I just wanted to give you a brief update about our troop gathering from yesterday. The girls had so much fun! Thank you to everyone who contributed and assisted in various ways:) I feel like everything is starting to come together a bit more. All of our Daisies have their very own binders which will stay in the classroom unless you would like to check them out to take a close look at handouts and/or activities we have been completing during our troop meetings. I will also place necessary forms and/or paperwork in the back pocket of these binders, so please be sure to check this area when you pick up your daughter.
Throughout the meeting we focused on Lupe the Lupine, one of the flowers that represents honesty and fairness. The girls started by coloring this petal, having their snack, and reciting the Girl Scout Promise aloud. After this, we read a story about Lupe the Lupine practicing the skill of being honest and fair with her other flower friends. I was very impressed with their understanding of the story and their ability to make text to life connections in which they shared personal examples. I also modeled honesty and fairness by drawing their names from a cup in order to show them how important it is to include everyone in helping with numerous tasks throughout the meeting. This reinforced another part of the Girl Scout Law which is being friendly and helpful. They did such a great job!
Following this, we made holiday ornaments and shared our beads and pipe cleaners wtih one another in a "fair" way. This was a great way for them to not only practice Lupe's promise, but to celebrate the holidays with each other in an exciting way.
Up next:
January 7th: Ceremony day (The girls will wear their vests and receive accompanying pins and patches based on what they have accomplished so far. Your dues have been used to pay for these items.) *Gretchen Lucky will be in charge of snack. Please feel free to pack their vests with them or drop them off at my building in the office.
January 21st: Winter Exploration (The girls will be traveling to the college woods and taking a hike with a Little Traverse Conservancy guide. This will be a great opportunity for them to learn about nature in their local region as well as animals that coexist with us in our northern, Michigan environment.)
I am still trying to gather some more information regarding other field trips in January. I will keep you posted! Take care and enjoy your holiday season!

Girl Scout Promise
Please keep in mind that our Daisies should be working on their Girl Scout Promises. This was sent home with your daughter at our last meeting and should be displayed in a visible location in order for her to work toward her goal of memorization. The promise is the first opportunity our Daisies have to earn a Daisy pin. I have attached it as a link if you have misplaced her previous copy or would like to have another reminder to reflect on from time to time.
